13 Reasons Why is a young adult novel written in 2007 by Jay Asher. It is the story of a young high school student that descends into despair by the immense amount of betrayal, bullying, that lead to her committing suicide. This show tries to target controversial topics to have young adolescents and parents engage in these conversations. The show has received a lot of backlash for its raw scenes such as rape, bullying, and suicide. You thought by the end of season 2; they would stop filming. However, they continue to film another season, the most outrageous season YET. In season 3, they attack many topics like abortion, immigration, and rape once again. Except in this season, they make you feel sympathy for Bryce Walker, the rapist at the high school. They try to show why he grew up to be a reckless human being.

Moreover, they show Bryce Walker trying to redeem himself amongst his classmates. Should we forgive a rapist? Should we try to sympathize for their criminal behavior and exempt them from doing wrong?

Rape is unlawful sexual activity, and usually, sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person’s will or with a person. Why would a show kill off a character yet makes the audience feel bad for the life he lived? If the show tried to have people seek help for sexual assault or depression, why bring to light that we should feel bad for those who have taken advantage of others? Why not have Bryce Walker suffer some consequences as rapist should.
