I was intrigued when I heard about this in the past and the controversy that is obviously tied along with it. Andres Serrano did this art piece and photographed it, and since 1987, when it was released, there has no doubt-ably had many controversies tied along with it. The Christian community has since been outraged by this piece, and more so specifically that it was publicly funded. Are they aware that there is a division between church and state, and also this is a form of freedom of speech and expression, but even though I am in the artist's defense, when really he was making it in order to show his beliefs and support of Christ and the supposedly horror he went through on the cross, this can be seen as defiling and degrading someone's beliefs and religion, and do not think it is a "nice" thing to do. But then again since when is art supposed to be "nice"? Read more in the following article : http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2012/sep/28/andres-serrano-piss-christ-new-york .
